On 28th March I posted the news below for helping my patients. I am going to extend this financial arrangement for my patients until August 2020 so that mums-to-be under my care can make full use of it i.e. bulk billing for obstetric (pregnancy) appointments below 23 weeks of pregnancy care. We will only start our regular appointment fees for all appointments from September 2020.

Original post 28th March 2020:
It is heart-breaking to learn from my patients that they have been recently stood down, or they have to close their businesses down due to the current difficult economy climate. Despite the current financial strain, mums-to-be should still get the best specialist care for their pregnancies. I have informed my manager that starting April 20 until further notice, all my antenatal (obstetrics only) appointments for new mums in their early pregnancies will be bulk billed. The regular clinic fee + pregnancy management fee will only commence from the 23rd week of pregnancies (please contact my practice for the regular clinic fee structure). The face-to-face appointments have also been spread out to avoid unnecessary contact between patients (with no extra charge). I have opened up new appointment slots to accommodate the longer appointment times for my patients, this is necessary to cut short my waiting list. I would like to help as much as possible in this difficult time, therefore we will review this arrangement only after a couple of months in June.

Joo has an extensive experience as a Specialist Obstetrician and Gynaecologist in the UK. He is also a
UK subspecialist in reproductive medicine and fertility; he was appointed to complete this subspecialist program of the UK Royal College via a highly competitive national selection. While in the UK Joo was also the chairperson for the national trainees in reproductive medicine and fertility.

Joo performs laparoscopic surgery for fertility and gynaecology patients; he completed the
UK Royal College advanced training in gynaecology surgery & laparoscopy. For male subfertility, he performs microsurgical sperm retrieval using a surgical microscope; this method is known to retrieve a higher quantity of good quality sperms. Joo also has a special interest in looking after and delivering obstetrics patients, especially women in their pregnancies after assisted conception. Although Joo has a considerable experience in performing Caesarean sections including technically complicated cases, he strongly believes women aiming to have natural births should be given the maximal chances to achieve vaginal births safely.

Joo was a research scientist in reproductive medicine; his doctoral research in reproductive immunology has led to the award of
Doctor of Medicine from the University of Glasgow. He has presented internationally, and has won several prizes for his research work. He also has a Master of Science in Clinical Trials from the University of London. He has written a chapter in the book on the Clinical Management of Pregnancies Following Fertility Treatment.

Joo is a regular contributor to articles related to women's health, fertility and obstetrics internationally. He has been interviewed by the
New York Times on the availability of fertility services in countries with limited resources.

Joo relocated with his family to Perth, Australia in early 2015. He prides himself in providing a
personalised, patient-centred care & support. He continues his research interest in fertility, and also in obstetrics and gynaecology in Australia. He speaks fluent Mandarin, Hokkien, Cantonese and Malay (Bahasa Melayu).

A good doctor should pay great attention to detail before, during and after seeing each patient. It is not about rushing them through the conveyer belt.
